SANDBLASTING
Sandblasting is a mechanical cleaning process for rigid surfaces by blasting sand particles and other elements with compressed air. It eliminates any kind of coat on surfaces, such as oxide and produces an anchor profile for later coating. SHOT BLASTING
Shot blasting is a surface mechanical cleaning process with high-speed steel abrasive (65-100 m/second), to remove contaminants from surfaces due to the impact of abrasives on them. What is the difference with Sand Blasting? Both are similar processes for surface cleaning. Sand Blasting uses pressured air in the process while Shot Blasting, in addition to pressured air, may also use centrifugal or mechanical force. Shot Blasting is more abrasive than Sand Blasting, as the second requires “sand” while the first uses metallic particles. Shot Blasting with centrifugal force is more productive than with pressured air and produced a surface uniform finishing. The criteria to use either Shot Blasting or other systems depends on the piece shape and size, the conditions of the surface to be cleaned, the final specifications of the surface to be cleaned, as well as the general requirements of the process. Wet Blasting
There are times when Sand Blasting requires water to remove the resulting heat and prepare the surface using friction instead of the abrasion produced by the sand blasting. This process is known as “wet blasting”, which removes coating, contaminants, corrosion and waste from hard surfaces. The main advantage is the dust reduction as this process produces a cleaner surface and more uniform finishing that is often ready for coating because there are no dust particles adhered to the surface. This way, the operator can work within different settings with minimum preparation and subsequent cleaning costs.
